Improving Efficiency - Conducting Workshops and Group Discussions

In my last semester, I participated in four peer reviews in my ENG 105 course, and group work is present in almost every practice and takes many forms, such as assignments, presentations, etc.

It is advantageous to share the results of my work with others. By communicating with each other, I can appreciate their work and learn from their writing experience while showing my own work to others to get their opinions and suggestions.

For me, gaining new ideas was the most important outcome of the workshop. It can come from other students' opinions and corrections after reading my essay or from my analysis and understanding of other people's essays.

What I want to avoid happening in a workshop is that the participants need to prepare for the material to be discussed, which can lead to a significant reduction in the workshop's effectiveness. Since different people often have different understandings and perspectives on the same issue, we need to respect the different ideas of others and have discussions in a harmonious and friendly atmosphere. In addition, disrespect for others' views, such as mere accusations and criticism, should not be present in the workshop.

In the workshop, I will present my work, which I have written and revised as carefully as possible because an article that has been carefully modified by myself can better give my thoughts and ideas to others. It also shows my respect for my readers because it seems to me that it is rude to use a poorly written article to confuse people.

Group discussions are sometimes similar to brainstorming, sometimes will collide with intense sparks but sometimes need to be pondered after the meeting in order to produce a better program. When the group discussion, each has their own responsibilities and division of labor. If it is a temporary group, then there must be a leader, who can be self-nominated and can also be elected to produce, and then each person, according to their own characteristics to, choose a different division of labor. If the group has been grinding, they do not have to say anything, everyone naturally knows what they should do. In the group discussion, you can voice, and we can also quietly listen, but please take good notes.
